We enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise in the Sunflower state while driving to Independence, Kansas, early this morning – one year to the day that Kansas Senator Pat Roberts took a stand that changed our national debate. Remember through that night, Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee took their historic stand for all of us in their effort to fulfill campaign promises and defund Obamacare. Very few Senators stood with them, but Pat Roberts knew it was the right thing to do; so, this tried, tested, and true Kansas conservative charged the hill and also stood strong in service to his home state and all Americans!

It’s been a tough primary season, and now it’s time for Republicans, independents, and blue dog democrats to unite! Those who are concerned about the Obama/Reid failed liberal agenda that is “fundamentally transforming” the nation we love must rally around the primary victor and remember that the goal is to beat back the radical left’s agenda. Kansas, the choice is clear: Pat Roberts or Harry Reid? Voters today in Independence know enough about independents to know that the opponent in this race, Greg Orman, is not one. He’s donated thousands of dollars to Barack Obama and Harry Reid! He wanted them to do what they’ve done! He actually SUPPORTS the mother-of-all disastrous mandates, Obamacare; the guy actually SUPPORTS amnesty for illegal immigrants; he's pro-abortion... the list goes on. No one with the liberal record of support for the most radical of Harry Reid's agenda passes the straight-face test when claiming he’s just “independent.” Good try, Greg, but these sharp, hardworking, salt-of-the-earth patriots see right through the liberals’ game in coaxing the "I" after your name. The good people I met this morning say, “Of course, he’s a liberal, in sheep's clothing.” One straight-shooting farmer hit it home when explaining, “I think he's just full of bull.”

Senator Pat Roberts has fought hard in many ways. I was amazed at how many constituents he knew by name and their specific concerns about the direction of America and their state’s particular issues. So many thanked him for fighting for them in Washington and before that as a Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine! Kansas, please re-elect this good man. My only complaint is that when I pointed to his ranking as “The Third Most Conservative Senator,” he grinned in his own humble way and told me he’d seen a ranking that put him fourth. Comparing his consistent conservative record with anyone else's, I insisted my research was right; so, my complaint is that this was the first argument I've ever had with a U.S. Senator while, literally, approaching the microphone together.

Kansas, please send this marine back to the hill! Thank you, Independence, for hosting such a fun and productive and inspiring day! In your beautiful museum with scrumptious Chris Cakes to serve his constituents, Senator Roberts and I agreed, it was a perfect pancake feed!
